ABOUT ME

MY HISTORY WITH WATCHES

As long as people have existed we have been finding ways to track the passage of time. My journey started with a simple no name quartz analog field watch. All of the watches I used were purely functional quartz and digital Casios. I started truly collecting watches when I received my first automatic watch, a Seiko SNK 809. From that point on I was hooked. Shortly thereafter my fascination with the movements inside grew. I had to know how they worked. With this intention I bought some tools and started the next chapter of my watch collecting journey.

WHY I STARTED THE COMPANY

My first project was a 1917 Waltham pocket watch. Upon opening it I felt pretty overwhelmed, but as I dug into the process I instantly fell in love. These fascinating pieces of machinery are very complex and I was certainly out of my element. But each time I assembled a watch and saw the balance wheel start to oscillate, it invigorated me to keep going. Watchmaking is no longer a common profession but with the growing demand there is a hole in the market. Knowing this and with the help of friends and family, I started Lunar Rising Watches to fill that gap. The company’s name is meant to harken back to the golden age of watches. A time when we were testing the limits and sending people to the moon.

WHY I DO IT

Many modern products are designed to be replaceable. On the other hand mechanical watches are one of the few products designed to be repaired. Watches are meant to travel with you throughout life. What I do here keeps watches out of the landfill and on the wrist of people. This is my way of sharing with the world something that I am passionate about, keeping these functional pieces of art ticking for years to come.
